KLA Corporation Had a Tough Month: 60% Returns Will Come According to This Wall Street Stalwart

Quick Read

  • KLA's 9.26% monthly slide masks five straight earnings beats and record quarterly revenue of $3.66B, with China export rules driving the selloff, not fundamentals.

  • C.J. Muse at Cantor Fitzgerald holds a Street-high $325 target on KLAC, implying 60% upside as advanced packaging revenue is forecast to grow over 70% in 2026.

  • Peers LRCX and AMAT carry just 11% and 26% consensus upside respectively, making KLA's Cantor-driven 60% case the largest single-analyst gap in semi-cap equipment.

  • The most widely read finance newsletter on Substack isn't published by a bank, it's Doomberg, where 383,000+ readers get the energy and macro analysis the mainstream press misses. 24/7 Wall St. readers save 17% on their first year here.

KLA (NASDAQ:KLAC) currently trades at $203.72, while Cantor Fitzgerald's Street-high target of $325 implies roughly 60% upside from here.

KLA dominates process control and yield management tools for semiconductor manufacturing, with over 50% global market share in optical wafer inspection and metrology. Its systems check wafers for microscopic defects inside every leading foundry and memory fab.

Wall Street has focused on KLA because its tools sit on the critical path of the AI capex cycle. When a stock this central to that story retreats in weeks, the gap between price and target warrants examination.

A Sharp Pullback Off the Post-Split Highs

KLA has fallen 9.26% over the past month, retreating from $224.50 to the current level despite beating on both lines last quarter. The most recent session alone knocked the stock down 2.7%.

The catalyst lies outside the fundamentals. The June quarter delivered record revenue of $3.66 billion, up 15.21% year over year, with non-GAAP EPS of $1.05 beating consensus by 5.14%. This marks the fifth straight quarter of beats. September quarter guidance called for revenue of $4.0 billion at the midpoint.

Instead, the selloff traces to evolving U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security rules affecting China sales, tariff overhang, and profit-taking after a strong run. KLA remains up 68.1% year to date, so the pullback reads as digestion rather than dislocation.

Why Cantor Fitzgerald Is Staying Loud at $325

C.J. Muse at Cantor Fitzgerald maintains an Overweight rating and $325 price target, the Street-high 12-month target across sell-side coverage. The bull thesis rests on three pillars: an uncontested monopoly in optical wafer inspection as defect detection scales at 2nm and A16 nodes, rising exposure to advanced packaging and HBM yield management through TSMC and Samsung, and pricing power keeping gross margins above 60%.

Management reinforces this setup. CEO Rick Wallace said "the trends driving our growth are strengthening, and we see momentum across our business accelerating in the second half of calendar 2026 and continuing through 2027." Advanced packaging process control revenue is guided to approximately $1.1 billion in calendar 2026, growing more than 70% year over year. CFO Bren Higgins raised the wafer fab equipment view to the low $150 billion range for 2026, with 2027 consensus tracking near $190 billion.

Consensus targets have not caught up. The broader analyst average sits at $231.78. Of the analysts tracked, 5 rate KLA Strong Buy, 13 Buy, 11 Hold, and none Sell or Strong Sell. Cantor bets that process control intensity rises faster than the market prices today.

Where KLA Stacks Up in Semi Cap Equipment

The peer group has been choppy. Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) trades at $507.18, down 12.47% over the past month against a consensus target of $638.17, or about 25.8% of implied upside. With 4 Strong Buy, 28 Buy, and 7 Hold ratings and no sells, sentiment is constructive.

Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) sits at $332.36, essentially flat on the month, versus a target of $368.94. That implies roughly 11% upside, the smallest gap in the group, with 4 Strong Buy, 25 Buy, and 6 Hold.

Onto Innovation (NYSE:ONTO), KLA's closest pure-play process control peer, trades at $331.71, up 8.85% on the month, with a target of $387.30 and 10 Buy-or-better ratings and zero holds. Implied upside is around 16.8%.

Against consensus targets, KLA's ~13.8% upside sits mid-pack. Against Cantor's Street-high, KLA carries the largest single-analyst upside in the group by a wide margin.

The Data Behind the Gap

KLA trades at $203.72 against a consensus target of $231.78, worth about 13.8% of upside. Cantor's $325 would deliver closer to 60%. The market cap sits at $266.17 billion, trailing P/E at 56, and forward P/E at 38.

Of the analysts covering the stock, 18 rate it Buy or Strong Buy, 11 rate it Hold, and none rate it Sell. Recent revisions have skewed toward reiterations rather than cuts despite the pullback.

Year to date, KLA is up 68.1% versus 13.85% for the S&P 500. Over the past year, the stock has more than doubled, up 114.6%. KLA reads as a leader digesting gains while a high-conviction shop calls for another leg up.

My Take on KLAC at This Level

The bull case works if you believe the process control intensity story compounds. That means CFO Higgins is right that 2027 WFE lands near $190 billion, advanced packaging tools stay a share-taker, and China restrictions do not deepen. In that world, Cantor's $325 is a real target.

The thesis breaks if China becomes the story rather than a footnote. Tighter BIS rules, tariff escalation, or a hyperscaler capex pause would compress the earnings multiple on a stock trading at 38 times forward earnings after a 68% year-to-date run.

On balance, lean cautiously constructive. Consensus upside is only mid-teens, so Cantor's 60% call demands you underwrite a bigger 2027 than the Street models. This is one of the highest-quality names in semi cap equipment, sitting on a five-quarter beat streak with widening exposure to the AI packaging cycle. The pullback looks constructive on the fundamentals, though the stock can move 10% in a week on a headline out of Washington.

What $28 a Month Buys a Serious Investor

Through this reader link, 24/7 Wall St. readers get their first year of Doomberg for $332 — 17% off the standard $400, which works out to about $28 a month. That buys six to eight deeply researched articles a month on energy, finance, and geopolitics, the full archive, and one of the most resource-rich comment sections anywhere, where engineers, executives, and fund managers add context under every piece. After the first year it renews at the standard rate, and you can cancel anytime. If today's article touched energy or the macro picture, odds are the green chicken has already gone three layers deeper — see for yourself at the discounted rate.
