New York-based S&P Global Inc. (SPGI) provides benchmarks, data, analytics, and workflow solutions in the global capital, energy, commodity, and automotive markets. Valued at a market cap of $120.9 billion, the company operates through five segments: S&P Global Market Intelligence, S&P Global Ratings, S&P Global Energy, S&P Global Mobility, and S&P Dow Jones Indices.

SPGI stock has lagged behind the broader market over the past year, declining 26.6% compared to the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 20.2% surge. Moreover, in 2026, the stock has fallen by nearly 21.5%, underperforming the SPX's 13.2% rise.

Zooming in further, the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) has risen 10.4% over the past year, lagging behind the stock. In 2026, XLF has grown 5.8% and has outpaced the stock.

On July 28, SPGI stock declined 3.5% following the release of its mixed Q2 2026 earnings. The company's revenue for the quarter rose 10.4% from the prior year's quarter to $4.2 billion and marginally beat the Street's forecasts. However, its adjusted EPS came in at $4.83, falling short of Wall Street's estimates. Management also lowered its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $17.63, which contributed to the stock losing investor confidence.

For the current year, which ends in December, analysts expect SPGI's EPS to fall marginally to $17.75 on a diluted basis. The company surpassed the consensus estimate in three of the last four quarters, while missing on one occasion.

Despite its underperformance, among 19 Wall Street analysts covering SPGI stock, the consensus is a "Strong Buy." That's based on 20 "Strong Buy" ratings, three "Moderate Buys," two "Holds," and one "Strong Sell."

The configuration has grown more bearish over the past months, with the stock now having one "Strong Sell" rating, as compared to none recorded three months prior.

On July 8, BMO Capital analyst Jeffrey Silber maintained a "Buy" rating on S&P Global and set a price target of $505.

SPGI's mean price target of $524.48 offers a 27.9% upside compared to the current market price. Its Street-high target of $640 implies a robust 56.1% upside from current levels.
