Good morning. Stocks opened in the green on Thursday after another inflation reading led traders to pare back bets of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September. Falling oil prices and strong earnings continued to stabilize markets.
Here's a check of the markets in early trading, as of 9:40 a.m. ET, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
The major sectors saw broad-based strength, led by real estate (XLRE), communication services (XLC), and consumer staples (XLP). Semiconductor and computer hardware stocks helped lift the tech trade (XLK). The exception was the energy sector (XLE), which dropped in sympathy with falling oil prices.
Brent crude oil futures (BZ=F) were down over 2% to $86 per barrel, while gold (GC=F) and bitcoin (BTC-USD) were little changed.
Here are some notable stocks that Yahoo Finance readers are viewing this morning: Cisco (CSCO), Cerebras (CBRS), Dell (DELL), SK Hynix (SKHY), Netflix (NFLX), Alphabet (GOOGL), and HP Inc. (HPQ).
