Billionaire investor Ray Dalio doesn't shy away from wading into the gold versus Bitcoin (BTC) controversy, and when he appeared on "The Diary of a CEO" podcast on July 30, he again doubled down on his preference for the precious metal over the cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin is a type of money that can't be printed, but technological threats such as quantum computing can hurt it, he said. In addition, the cryptocurrency can be monitored by governments, which can then tax these digital assets, he warned.

Bitcoin makes up only 1% of his investment portfolio, the billionaire revealed the exact figure.

However, it isn't the first time he has disclosed the figure, as he admitted the same in an interview in November 2025.

Why Dalio prefers gold over Bitcoin

Moreover, Dalio reiterated that he prefers gold over Bitcoin. The argument isn't new.

As reported earlier, the Bridgewater Associates founder has argued that fiat currency essentially means a promise from a central authority. But the government can print more money when the debt rises, but it devalues the fiat currency. In contrast, an asset with a limited supply doesn't lose value, he argued.

"Gold is the only long-term historic asset for reasons."

Gold, he said, can't be printed, is globally recognized, and can be transferred across countries without relying on a counterparty's promise. In contrast, Bitcoin doesn't have privacy as any transaction can be monitored and controlled, he said.

No central bank will embrace an asset running on a public ledger, he has argued.

Gold's price stood at $4,054.54 at press time, up more than 20% in a year. Bitcoin, on the other hand, has lost 45% of its value in a year and was trading at $62,917.44 at press time.
