TFI International is adding financial executive Steve Mayer to its board of directors, the company announced last week.
Mayer has over 30 years in investment banking experience, including time at top financial firms "advising leading Canadian companies on domestic and U.S. cross-border M&A and capital markets transactions," the transportation conglomerate said.
"Steve is deeply committed to our values around business discipline with a growth mindset, and his Canadian-U.S. knowledge and highly relevant expertise will prove incredibly valuable as TFI International strives to further enhance shareholder value," Chairman, President and CEO Alain Bédard said in the announcement.
Mayer is currently the president of investment banking firm and financial solutions provider Greenhill Canada and vice chairman of parent company Greenhill & Co., which Mizuho Financial Group acquired in 2023. He's previously worked for Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Scotia Capital, a Greenhill release once noted.
Mayer said on his LinkedIn profile that he's honored to join the board and described TFI as a leader in the North American transportation and logistics industry.
The board currently consists of nine members, and Mayer's term is effective Oct. 29. The new, permanent addition brings the board to 10 members, and Mayer will be part of the slate of board candidates in the April election, the company told Trucking Dive in an email.
TFI, which includes LTL carrier TForce Freight, has been integrating M&A deals in recent years, including the flatbed and specialized carrier Daseke in 2024. This past summer Bédard hinted that further expansion could continue.
"Steve's superb track record in the capital markets and M&A combined with his deep experience in both Canada and the U.S. make him the perfect fit for our Board of Directors," Bédard said.
