Prominent Bitcoin investor Michael Saylor's Strategy Inc. is snapping up 950 more of the digital token for about $76 million following a three-week pause, according to a Monday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Strategy is also making moves to boost its share price. The same SEC filing disclosed that the Virginia-based Bitcoin holding firm had repurchased $174 million of its preferred stock. Strategy's token holdings now total 846,000 Bitcoin worth $74 billion.

Bitcoin has fluctuated sharply in price over the past two years. It peaked at just above $126,000 in Sept. 2025 on the back of market enthusiasm for President Donald Trump's second term in which he declared to be a "pro-crypto president." His administration dropped scores of federal investigations into crypto firms and signed into law a regulatory framework for stablecoin issuers that integrated them further into the mainstream financial world. Stablecoin is a crypto asset pegged to a reserve currency like the U.S. dollar.

Bitcoin prices have since dropped sharply from last year's record-high to $86,500 as of Tuesday afternoon. That price plunge hasn't dented Saylor's enthusiasm.

"A little more orange," he posted on social media the day before the SEC filing, referring to a Bitcoin price chart with the company's signature color.

"Sell a kidney if you must, but keep the Bitcoin"

As of Tuesday afternoon, Strategy was trading at about $168 per share. The Bitcoin firm's share price has grown 9% since the start of the trading week on Monday. While a predominantly volatile space, crypto trading is still bustling with investor activity and far from dead — at least for now.

The Bitcoin-holding company unloaded $216 million in Bitcoin in July, just as Strategy was about to embark on a major overhaul of its balance sheet. The sale was viewed as a signal to crypto investors that the company intended to use Bitcoin to grow its liquidity in a more elastic strategy going forward, rather than simply acquire more of the token and refrain from selling it. The latter has been core to its overall business strategy, even as Bitcoin prices fell as the result of turmoil in digital asset markets.

Saylor has built a reputation as a Bitcoin evangelist. "Sell a kidney if you must, but keep the Bitcoin," he said in a Feb. 2025 social media post.

Crypto's flop in Congress

The crypto industry was dealt a major blow in Congress last week when a major crypto package named the Clarity Act failed to pass a key test vote in the Senate. Trump had supported the legislation, which would make it easier to ensure crypto wasn't policed with the same federal oversight as stocks and bonds traded on Wall Street.

Democrats, though, sought stronger ethics language to prevent Trump from profiting off crypto assets. The president reported $1.4 billion in income from crypto ventures operated by members of his family. Crypto advocates assailed the outcome of the vote.

"Today's vote was a failure of leadership," Mason Lynaugh, executive director of the Stand With Crypto advocacy group, said in a statement shortly after the failed vote. "Every day without action is a day that American innovation, jobs, and investments continue to be shipped overseas."
