Coinbase Global, Inc. (COIN), based in New York, is a leading cryptocurrency platform that enables individuals and institutions to trade, stake, store, spend, and transfer digital assets, with a market capitalization of approximately $51.3 billion. It also provides infrastructure for onchain activity, supporting developers, businesses, and the broader global crypto economy.
Companies valued between $10 billion and $200 billion are generally classified as "large-cap stocks," and Coinbase Global comfortably fits this category. Coinbase Global has grown from a crypto exchange into a broader digital asset platform with scale and reach. Its strong U.S. market position, regulatory trust, services across trading, custody, staking, and stablecoins, growing subscription revenue, and derivatives leadership give it multiple revenue streams beyond traditional spot trading.

Despite its notable strengths, COIN is currently 51.7% below its 52-week high of $402.16, reached on October 10, 2025. Over the past three months, COIN shares have risen 19%, compared with a marginal decline in the iShares U.S. Broker-Dealers & Securities Exchanges ETF (IAI) over the same period.
Shares of COIN have plunged 14.1% YTD and 43.4% over the past 52 weeks, considerably underperforming IAI, which has gained 3% YTD and 4.8% over the same period.
While COIN has remained below its 200-day moving average since mid-November last year, pointing to persistent longer-term weakness, recent price action offers some signs of improvement. Shares reclaimed their 50-day moving average in mid-August, suggesting that short-term momentum may be starting to strengthen.
Coinbase Global's weaker stock performance has come despite continued improvements in its underlying business, with broader crypto-market weakness remaining a key headwind. The challenging market environment has weighed on sentiment toward crypto-related stocks, even as Coinbase has continued to strengthen its business.
On July 30, Coinbase reported its second-quarter 2026 results, sending shares 2.2% higher as investors digested the results. The company reported a record 10.3% share of crypto trading volume, marking its third consecutive quarterly gain despite challenging market conditions. Coinbase also continued to diversify beyond spot trading, with Subscription and Services revenue reaching $555 million and accounting for 48% of net revenue. The results highlighted the company's growing market share and increasingly diversified revenue base.
In the competitive financial data and stock exchanges industry, S&P Global Inc. (SPGI) has posted a steeper YTD decline than COIN, falling 22.4%. Over the past 52 weeks, however, SPGI has held up better, declining 20.2% compared with COIN's 43.4% drop.
Wall Street analysts remain cautiously bullish on COIN's prospects. The stock carries a consensus "Moderate Buy" rating from the 36 analysts covering it, while the mean price target of $198.78 implies a 2.3% premium to its current price.
