Grant Thornton UK appoints new partner to support public sector consulting

Grant Thornton UK has selected Amanda Askham as a new partner to support its public sector consulting practice.

Askham will oversee the company's local government transformation and organisational design work in her new position.

She joins Grant Thornton UK with almost 30 years of experience across consulting and public sector leadership.

After beginning her career in consulting, Askham spent more than 20 years in local government, holding several senior roles focused on change and transformation.

In her most recent role as strategic director at Ealing Council, she led a council-wide transformation programme covering organisational and operating model redesign, workforce and service improvements, as well as research and insight.

Askham also has experience supporting organisations in responding to financial and strategic pressures through practical, long-term changes.

Her appointment is intended to support Grant Thornton's work with councils on implementing organisational and service changes.

Commenting on her appointment, Askham said: "Local government is entering one of the most significant periods of change it has faced in years. Sustained financial pressure and the need to rethink how services are delivered means councils need advisors who understand the reality of change from the inside.

Grant Thornton's public sector business has made 44 promotions and recruited 54 external hires this year, including seven partners and eight directors.

The appointment also aligns with the company's broader plan to recruit 160 new partners by the end of 2027.

Earlier this year, Grant Thornton UK picked Caroline Nugent as managing director to head its public sector people practice.
