RF Industries (RFIL) Reports Stronger Profits. Can New Orders Sustain the Improved Product Mix?

RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) reported stronger fiscal third-quarter results on September 14. Revenue increased 21% to $23.96 million for the quarter ended July 31, 2026, while operating income reached approximately $1.8 million, compared with $720,000 a year earlier.

The next question is whether new orders can sustain that performance. Quarterly bookings totaled $22.5 million, below revenue. Backlog stood at $18.6 million at quarter-end and increased to $19.8 million by September 14.

Bookings measure new orders, including modifications or cancellations of earlier orders. Backlog represents orders received for which revenue has yet to be recognized.

Why RF Industries (RFIL) Is Skyrocketing So Far In 2025?

Bull Case

RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) improved both sales and profitability. Gross margin increased to 35.6% from 34% a year earlier, helping operating income grow much faster than revenue.

Management attributes the margin expansion to a shift toward customized cabling and integrated systems. These offerings involve more engineering and larger projects than traditional component sales. Competing on technical capability and customer requirements could support stronger relationships and repeat business.

For RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL), scaling those products could make additional revenue more valuable. Higher sales can spread fixed operating costs across a larger revenue base, while stronger gross margins leave more to cover those costs.

The $1.2 million backlog increase between July 31 and September 14 offers early support for continued activity. Sustaining that growth in products with attractive margins would strengthen the case for a lasting improvement.

Bear Case

RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) still needs bookings to support the higher sales level. Dividing quarterly bookings by revenue produces a ratio of approximately 0.94, or about 94 cents of net order intake for every dollar of sales.

Large shipments and customer orders can fall in different quarters. A persistent gap would be more concerning: if bookings repeatedly remain below revenue, maintaining shipments would require drawing down the existing order base.

The later backlog increase covers only part of the next quarter. The next full-quarter report will show whether net order intake is keeping pace with sales, while the composition of incoming work will determine how much profit that backlog can produce.

RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) needs both volume and profitable work. A larger backlog weighted toward lower-margin products could sustain revenue while weakening earnings. A favorable mix accompanied by insufficient orders could also leave too little volume to cover operating costs as efficiently.

Bookings, gross margin, and shipment timing therefore need to be assessed together. Order growth creates more value when deliveries preserve the improved profitability.

Hedge Fund Sentiment

The filings available so far reflect positions held before RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 results. Insider Monkey's database showed 14 hedge funds holding RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) at the end of 2Q2026, up from 12 funds three months earlier.

Conclusion

RF Industries, Ltd. (NASDAQ:RFIL) has delivered an encouraging improvement in profitability. Sustained order replacement at comparable margins would provide stronger evidence of lasting progress. Subsequent bookings, backlog conversion, and operating income will determine whether the better product mix translates into durable earnings growth.
