Bloom Energy (BE) Unveils a New Power Play for the AI Boom

Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE) garnered significant investor attention after it unveiled a new 800V DC-native fuel-cell power architecture on September 16, designed to supply continuous direct current to the next generation of AI data centers.

These solid-oxide fuel cells can generate continuous 800V DC power natively, rather than producing AC power that then has to be converted into DC that AI computing equipment ultimately consumes. This potentially removes several conversion stages, such as transformers and switchgear, thus lowering capital cost and energy losses.

Bloom claims that its technology can cut non-compute capital expenditures for a 1 GW data center by $3.6 billion, or 27%, and lower five-year total cost of ownership by $5.5 billion, or 9%, compared to traditional AC-based infrastructure.

Bloom Energy (BE) Unveils a New Power Play for the AI Boom

Bloom Rides the Shift to 800V DC:

With this technology, Bloom Energy is targeting one of the biggest bottlenecks in the ongoing AI boom – securing large amounts of reliable power quickly and economically. If 800V DC becomes widely adopted across AI data centers, the company will benefit not only from the soaring power demand, but also from a broader shift in how that power is generated and delivered.

Bloom Energy pointed to Nvidia's planned adoption of 800V DC architecture beginning with Rubin Ultra and Kyber systems as an indication of where data center power infrastructure is heading. In its 2026 Mid-Year Data Center Power Report, Bloom claimed that data center leaders expect DC-based architectures to account for 58% of new deployments by 2030, potentially creating a significant market for technologies designed around direct-current power delivery.

Additionally, the company's projected cost savings could also provide a financial incentive for customers to shift to its systems.

Importantly, this new technology catalyst comes at a time when Bloom is already seeing rapid financial growth. The company had the strongest quarter in its history in Q2 2026, as its revenue rocketed more than 165% YoY, crossing the $1 billion milestone. The advanced fuel cell developer now expects its full-year revenue to be in the range of $3.9 billion to $4.2 billion, indicating a growth of 100% YoY at the midpoint. This is up from the 80% sales growth it expected last quarter and the 60% increase it had projected initially. Bloom also raised its adjusted EPS guidance range to $2.55-$2.85, up from $1.85-$2.25 previously.

The 800V Promise Remains Unproven:

It must be noted that Bloom Energy's $3.6 billion CapEx and $5.5 billion total cost-savings figures are based on the company's own model rather than demonstrated results. Bloom itself explicitly noted that the actual savings will depend on site design, energy prices, equipment costs, and customer deployment decisions. Additionally, the company needs to demonstrate that data-center operators will deploy its technology at scale instead of just simply expressing their interest.

Bloom's elevated valuation also leaves the stock vulnerable to a potential correction. The stock has jumped by almost 170% since the beginning of 2026, meaning that there is limited room for weaker-than-expected execution.

Lastly, the concerns of a potential AI bubble also present a significant risk for the company, since a major part of its investment thesis is based on the rapidly growing power demand from data centers. If this demand ultimately proves less durable than current trends imply, it could considerably weaken one of Bloom's key growth drivers.

Conclusion:

Bloom Energy's new 800V DC-native fuel-cell power system positions the company to capitalize on the ballooning AI data center power demand and potentially reduce infrastructure costs. However, the stock's sharp rally and the technology's unproven large-scale adoption leave execution and customer uptake as key risks.

Market Sentiment:

Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE) was held by 116 hedge funds in the Insider Monkey database at the end of Q2 2026, with a total investment value of around $10.8 billion. This is up from 91 hedge fund investors with a total stake value of just under $4.5 billion in the previous quarter.
