What Happened?

Microsoft (MSFT) stock is in focus after the company raised its quarterly dividend to $0.98 per share, an 8% increase from the prior quarter.

That works out to a 7-cent bump per share. The new dividend will be paid out on December 10 to shareholders of record as of November 19, which is also the ex-dividend date.

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Wood weighed in on the move, noting that this increase is a bit smaller than Microsoft's average dividend hike of around 10% over the past five years.

Still, he said it fits the company's long-standing pattern of growing its dividend in step with earnings.

Wood pointed out that when you combine this dividend growth with Microsoft's earnings per share growth, which he expects to land in the high teens, it adds up to a strong total return story for Microsoft stock.

He described the setup as supporting a "durable high-teens total return profile," which he sees as an attractive risk-reward situation for investors.

Morgan Stanley rates Microsoft stock as overweight, meaning the firm expects it to outperform.

The firm's price target is $600 per share, implying 22% upside from Wednesday's closing price.

Separately, Microsoft also announced its 2026 Annual Shareholders Meeting will be held virtually on December 8. Shareholders as of September 30 will be eligible to vote.

CEO Satya Nadella, CFO Amy Hood, Vice Chair and President Brad Smith, and lead independent director Sandra E. Peterson will host the meeting.
