Thursday's trading session was a good one for Intel shareholders. The chipmaker's stock closed up about 8%, a day after a Reuters report that the company held exploratory talks about a deal with SK Hynix to produce memory chips in the U.S.
The deal could see SK Hynix lease part of Intel's new Ohio mega-campus, though neither company has confirmed. Another scenario, per Reuters, could be a joint venture between the two firms and cloud computing companies who need the firehose of memory.
Nasdaq-listed SK Hynix shares closed up nearly 5%.

Memory chips are perhaps the most lucrative sector of the AI trade, lifting picks-and-shovels stocks like Intel to all time highs earlier this year.
Wall Street had already piled on. Northland upgraded Intel to Outperform earlier this month and Tigress lifted its target to $145 this week, both on the foundry turnaround. Now add a rumor about memory chips from a campus Intel won't finish until 2030 at the earliest, with a partner that was denying the rumors two months ago, and the stock tacks on another 8%. That's the AI trade in a nutshell.
