London-based LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (LYB) is a global chemical and plastics manufacturer and one of the world's largest producers of polymers. Valued at a market cap of $20.6 billion, the company makes polyethylene, polypropylene, olefins, aromatics and other chemicals that serve as building blocks for products ranging from food packaging and automotive components to healthcare products, infrastructure and consumer goods.

Companies with a market capitalization of $10 billion or more are typically referred to as "large-cap stocks." LYB fits right into that category. Its competitive strengths include its global scale, leading positions in key polymers and chemicals, integrated operations, diversified end markets, and strong technology capabilities.

Despite sitting 24.1% below its 52-week high of $83.94, LyondellBasell's stock has staged an impressive comeback. It has climbed marginally over the past three months, compared to the State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF's (XLB) marginal fall.

The bigger picture is more compelling. In 2026, the stock has gained 47.1%, far ahead of XLB's 12.4% rise. Over the past 52 weeks, LYB has surged 14.8%, also outperforming the ETF's 10% rise.

LYB's technical picture has also turned increasingly bullish, with the stock holding above its 200-day moving average since early July and its 50-day moving average since early August, signs that both its long- and short-term momentum have shifted firmly to the upside.

LYB has outpaced the broader market over the past year as improving chemical demand, stronger operating performance, and optimism around a recovery in its end markets have boosted investor sentiment. Its appeal also extends to income investors, with the company having paid dividends consistently for the past 14 years. On Aug. 14, shares rose 2.2% after the company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.69 per share. With an annualized payout of $2.76 per share, the dividend implies a forward yield of approximately 4.33%.

LYB may have lagged its rival Albemarle Corporation (ALB) over the past year, with ALB soaring 56.6%. But the tables have turned in 2026, with ALB down 16.9%, giving LYB a clear edge so far this year.

Adding to that, sentiment on LYB remains fairly bullish. Among the 21 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a "Moderate Buy." Its mean price target of $69.30 represents a premium of 8.8% from the current price levels.
