Türkiye’s Orta closes Kayseri facility after 73 years

Orta's Kayseri facility will cease production by 12 October, following an immediate suspension of production activities announced on 11 September.

According to reports from the site, certain sections of the factory, including the weaving unit, were the last to operate, after which workers were reportedly sent home by management.

Orta Anadolu Mensucat, which was established in 1953 and has been known for supplying denim to global brands since 1986, described the decision as "extremely difficult".

The company said it had implemented cost reduction initiatives, sought operational efficiencies, and considered restructuring, but these efforts were insufficient in the face of continued weakening of global demand, rising costs and industry-wide supply chain disruptions.

"We extend our deepest gratitude to all our employees who have contributed to this 73-year journey, as well as to our customers, financial institutions, and suppliers for their trust, loyalty, and support," Orta Anadolu Mensucat shared in a statement.

The company also said it intends to work with stakeholders to meet its commercial obligations responsibly and transparently.

"We would particularly like to emphasise that throughout this process, we will work in close cooperation with all our stakeholders to fulfil our existing commercial obligations responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with our corporate values," it added.

Orta Anadolu Mensucat has not disclosed the number of employees affected by the closure. However, according to the company's LinkedIn profile, it currently has more than 1,500 employees.

Headquartered in Şişli, Istanbul Orta Anadolu, was listed as an exhibitor for the fabric trend show PREFACE, which returned to Los Angeles on 28-29 January for the Fall/Winter 2027 edition.
