Elon Musk's X Corp and SpaceXAI have withdrawn their antitrust lawsuit against Apple, ending a year-long legal dispute that accused the iPhone developer of colluding with OpenAI to dominate markets for smartphones and generative AI chatbots, reported Reuters.

The two Musk-owned businesses submitted a court filing stating they would dismiss claims brought against Apple from a lawsuit originally brought against both the iPhone maker and OpenAI last year.

The filing did not specify the reasons for dropping the claims or indicate whether a settlement had been reached between the parties.

The development concludes a highly visible conflict between Musk's companies and Apple. The dispute centred on allegations that Apple had engaged in anticompetitive behaviour by integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT exclusively into Apple Intelligence features in iPhones and other devices.

The original lawsuit, filed in August 2025, alleged that this arrangement shut rival chatbot developers out of the market through Apple's partnership with OpenAI.

The claims against OpenAI, which is also named as a defendant, are ongoing.

OpenAI said in its own court filing on Monday that it was not part of the dismissal agreement between Musk's firms and Apple, while adding that it was not aware of its terms.

The ChatGPT developer said it has requested that X Corp share details of the agreement, stating that it "would likely affect the claims in the lawsuit and OpenAI's defence."

A judge previously ruled in November 2025 that Musk's companies could proceed with their lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, cautioning that this decision was not an endorsement of the merits of the case.

OpenAI and Apple have both denied any illegal conduct in relation to chatbot integration.

Apple, in its response to the original complaint, said, "Choosing one partner first is not unlawful," and argued that integration with OpenAI was not an exclusive deal.

Apple also maintained that other chatbot services remain available to consumers on iPhones and in the App Store.

OpenAI characterised the lawsuit as "consistent with Mr Musk's ongoing pattern of harassment and we look forward to proving this in court."

Last year, xAI purchased X Corp for $33bn in order to advance its AI chatbot capabilities.

In February, SpaceX acquired AI startup xAI, bringing together Musk's space exploration and AI businesses. The transaction links the space and satellite company SpaceX with xAI, which is known for its Grok chatbot.

"Musk's X Corp and SpaceXAI drop antitrust claims against Apple" was originally created and published by Verdict, a GlobalData owned brand.
