Oil major Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) is one of Cramer's favorite stocks in the sector. Among the reasons that he likes the firm are its dividend, production projects, and its CEO, Mike Wirth. Naturally, in his morning appearance on the 3rd, the CNBC TV host discussed Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) in the context of these reasons as well:

"I mean, Mike Wirth, is in project, thank you RBN, is in a project, a gigantic project in the Permian, working with GE Vernova, and it's a long term project and it's going to be a four year project to be able to get Permian gas into electricity for a giant Microsoft plant. And these are four and five and six year projects and they are not going to be inflected.

"That's Mike Wirth. I mean Mike Wirth is a delightful man but he's a patient man! . . .look he's in Leviathan. Which is this area, big field next to Israel. And the politics are just so toxic. Doesn't matter, he's there, he's doing that. . .he's a brilliant man who's just a kind man."

Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s shares are up by more than 35% over the past year. With the conflict in Iran having driven oil prices for most of the year, Cramer has also discussed the firm and commented that the shares serve as a proxy for the war. Broadly, though, the debate for Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) is focused on the firm's valuation versus the potential of its investments to sustainably drive expansion even if the broader market suffers from cyclicality or oil prices struggle.

On the growth front, Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s second quarter did deliver fireworks. The firm grew its revenue by 56.3% to $70 billion. The revenue growth was driven by a 20% bump in upstream production as the firm's Permian operations started in full swing. In Q2, Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s investments started to demonstrate results as its US production sat at 2.1 million barrels. Additionally, the firm also outlined that it had achieved $1.5 billion in synergies from its Hess acquisition. Additionally, while the production bumps help the top line, Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) is also aiming to reduce between $3 billion to $4 billion in costs by the end of this year.

However, one worrying factor that's often discussed about Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) is the riskiness of its investment. The risk was also on Cramer's mind as he commented on the firm's projects in the Middle East. Another region of worry is Venezuela, with Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s $7 billion in investments in the Orinoco Belt often being discussed as facing significant political and other risks. Additionally, while the US sector is growing, Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)'s upstream production grew by 17%, while domestic production accounted for 56% of overall production growth.

Looking at hedge fund sentiment, while 103 funds covered by Insider Monkey had held a stake in Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) in Q1, the figure dipped to 101. However, AQR Capital Management bumped its stake by 269% to $912 million. On the valuation front, the firm's forward P/E ratio of 15.58 is slightly lower than peer Exxon's 14.62. Short interest as a percentage of float is negligible at 0.8%.
