Primaflor bags vegetables supplier Zanobeet

Spain-based fruit-and-veg group Primaflor has acquired local vegetables supplier Zanobeet.

In a statement, the family-owned Primaflor said the deal gives the company a presence in "complementary categories" like beetroot, red onion and sweet potato.

Zanobeet, founded in 2001 and headquartered in Cádiz in southern Spain, grows across 600 hectares, mainly located in the provinces of Cádiz and Seville.

The company has three storage, packing and shipping sites in Chipiona and Jerez de la Frontera.

Primaflor, which says it is the largest producer of vegetables in Spain, believes the acquisition means the company can add "strategic products with high demand and long shelf life" to its own range.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Zanobeet primarily sells in international markets, including the UK, the Netherlands and France.

Zanobeet will continue to operate under its own identity, Primaflor said, but benefit from its new owner's sales network and resources.

Nicolás Montero, a Zanobeet executive, will take on the role of general manager of the unit under Primaflor's ownership.

He said: "I am convinced that, together with the Primaflor team, we will build an even stronger project, maintaining our close relationship with our clients, our specialisation and the values ​​that have always defined us."
