The single metric worth isolating on NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) is the dividend itself, and specifically what fraction of total capital return it represents.

Payout Sized Against Buybacks

NVIDIA's quarterly cash payout jumped from $0.01 per share at the March 11, 2026 ex-date to $0.25 per share at the June 4 ex-date. Trailing twelve-month payments total $0.53; the annualized forward rate is $1.00. That split between trailing and forward is the fingerprint of a fresh raise.

Why It Matters More Than Yield

In Q2 FY2027, NVIDIA returned $26 billion to shareholders: $20 billion through share repurchases and $6 billion through the quarterly dividend. Across all of FY2026, dividends were $974 million of $41.1 billion in total returns, set against $96.58 billion in full-year free cash flow. The check is rounding error.

Current State and Key Dates

The next payment lands October 1, 2026, following declaration on August 26, 2026 and an ex-dividend date of September 10, 2026. CFO Colette Kress told investors NVIDIA has "returned 60% on a year-to-date basis" against a plan to return 50% or more of free cash flow. Shares changed hands at $218.42, off 2.24% intraday but up 874.85% over five years.
