Alphyn Capital Management, an investment management firm, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. The fund's Master Account returned 0.6% net in the quarter compared to 15.2% for the S&P500. As of June 30, 2026, the top ten positions comprised approximately 72% of the portfolio, and the portfolio held approximately 9% in cash and short-term treasuries. The portfolio experienced minimal gains in the quarter, despite a strong index performance, leading to disappointment in longer-term results. The author acknowledged prior management flaws, notably holding onto positions after their initial rationale changed. As a correction, every position now has a clear thesis, expected return, and exit strategy based on changes in metrics. (NYSE:V), a multinational financial services company known for its payment technology network that offers credit, debit, and prepaid card products and other services. On September 08, 2026, Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) closed at $368.64 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $688.27 billion. Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) posted a one‑month return of 2.57%, while its shares gained 9.03% over the past 52 weeks.
Alphyn Capital Management stated the following regarding Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) is a new position and what I hope will be a good example of the durable compounder framework outlined above. It is frequently thought of simply as a consumer finance business; in fact it is the critical technology infrastructure layer for global electronic payments. The core thesis rests on the widening gap between front-end simplicity and back-end complexity. While the consumer experiences a frictionless tap or click, the back end requires instantaneous, cross-border coordination of authorization, fraud prevention, settlement, tokenization, and risk management among competing banks, merchants, and processors. That complexity is where the moat resides.
The defense mechanism protecting this moat is simultaneity. To displace Visa, a challenger cannot simply offer cheaper routing; it must simultaneously replicate a global base of issuing banks, acquiring merchants, and cardholders, alongside the necessary regulatory approvals and decades of tested technological reliability. Because Visa does not put its own balance sheet behind cardholder credit risk, it operates as a high-margin toll booth on global nominal GDP, resulting in exceptional returns on invested capital..."
