Old Dominion Freight Line (NASDAQ:ODFL) shares rose 1.3% to $188.34 in premarket trading on Tuesday after the less-than-truckload carrier reported an increase in revenue per day for August.
In an operating update issued on September 3 and filed with the SEC as an 8-K, the company said revenue per day increased 12.4% compared with August 2025, primarily reflecting an increase in LTL revenue per hundredweight.
LTL Revenue per Hundredweight Increases
For the quarter to date, LTL revenue per hundredweight increased 11.3% year over year. Excluding fuel surcharges, the measure rose 4.8%.
The fuel-surcharge-adjusted figure provides a measure of changes in revenue per hundredweight excluding the effect of fuel surcharges.
Chief Executive Marty Freeman described demand trends through July and August as "relatively consistent."
Freeman also said the company's service centre network has capacity available to accommodate additional volumes if demand increases.
Old Dominion recently declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.29 per share, with an ex-dividend date of September 2.
ODFL Gains as Major U.S. Indices Trade Lower
Old Dominion's premarket advance came as the broader U.S. equity market traded lower, with the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq all in negative territory.
The supplied information also notes that Wells Fargo, Stifel, JPMorgan and Evercore ISI have raised their price targets for Old Dominion in recent weeks. Analyst price targets represent individual firms' assessments and do not guarantee future share-price performance.
The company's operating update and the broader market decline were among the developments investors were assessing during Tuesday's premarket session.
Old Dominion shares remained below their 52-week high of $252.03.
