Dorian LPG orders three dual-fuel Panamax VLGCs from Hanwha Ocean

Dorian LPG has agreed an order with South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean for the construction of three 90,000m³ dual-fuel Panamax very large gas carriers (VLGCs) for a total price of around $345m (Won463.5bn).

The three ships are scheduled for delivery in June, September and December 2030.

Each VLGC will be fitted with dual-fuel engines capable of burning liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or conventional low-sulphur fuels. They will also feature a shaft generator system that allows power to be produced on board during sea passages.

Hull forms and main engines have been designed to take larger-diameter propellers and energy-saving devices around the propellers, which the company said improves overall energy efficiency.

Dorian LPG said the Panamax dimensions give its charterers commercial flexibility to transit the old Panama Canal locks.

The newbuilds are in line with Dorian LPG's ongoing strategy of investing in advanced ships that align with its trading objectives and efforts to reduce emissions.

Dorian LPG chairman, president and CEO John Hadjipateras said: "These newbuildings reflect our measured approach to fleet renewal coupled with a capital allocation strategy that drives long-term shareholder value creation."

Separately, the company issued forward chartering estimates for the quarter ending 30 September 2026.

Based on the close of business, it estimates that 99% of its calendar days have been fixed at a rate in surplus of $88,000 per day. This figure excludes any demurrage that may be earned on voyages completed during September 2026.

Dorian LPG also signed a new seven-year, $368.4m credit facility earlier this month, refinancing indebtedness under the 2023 Amended and Restated Facility, the Cougar and Cresques Japanese financings and the Commander tranche of the Banc of America Leasing Corporation Asset Protection Facility (BALCAP) Facility.

Priced at 140 basis points over the secured overnight financing rate with an age-adjusted profile of 22 years, it comprises a $213.4m term loan and a $155.1m revolving credit facility, together with a $200m accordion to support future growth.

With the Cresques entering the facility at the end of September, $193.8m will be drawn at close, plus $16m under the revolver to refinance the Clermont ahead of her delivery to new owners in October.

Nordea Bank AbP New York Branch, which is also the agent, coordinator and security agent, and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken are coordinating bookrunners, while Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank is the sustainability coordinator for the sustainability-linked facility.

Dorian LPG chief financial officer and treasurer Ted Young said: "We are pleased to conclude this new facility with a highly regarded group of banks with whom we have worked for many years.

"The facility, when fully drawn, will consolidate four facilities into one and generate overall savings in interest and principal amortisation per day. The facility provides ample financial flexibility for growth and fleet renewal with its revolving credit and accordion features."

Dorian LPG operates 25 modern VLGCs transporting LPG worldwide, including six dual-fuel ECO VLGCs, and has offices in the US, Denmark and Greece.
