Stahl updates Sensora haptic coatings portfolio for packaging applications

Speciality coatings developer Stahl has updated its Sensora portfolio, comprising a line of haptic coatings for packaging materials.

The company said the products are intended to give packaging a tactile element through finishes that can vary from soft and velvety to smooth, silky, rubber-like and textured.

Sensora has been developed for use on paper and board, narrow web and flexible packaging, and is aimed at both food and non-food segments.

The portfolio covers water-based and energy-curable systems, with matte, soft-touch and other tactile effects.

Several products in the range are available with food-contact compliance options, including Swiss and German Ink ordinances, as well as ISEGA and EuPIA compliance.

Stahl packaging coatings group director Paul Grzebielucha said: "With Sensora, Stahl helps brands harness the power of touch in packaging.

"By combining tactile differentiation with proven coating performance, Sensora enables customers to create premium experiences that enhance consumer engagement and strengthen brand identity."

Earlier this year, Netherlands-based Stahl Group agreed to be acquired by Germany's Henkel, in a deal valued at €2.1bn ($2.48bn), subject to regulatory approvals.

The company employs 1,700 people and recorded adjusted sales of approximately €725m ($854.6m) for the 2025 fiscal year.

Stahl's ownership is divided among Wendel (68.5%), BASF (16.1%), and Clariant (14.6%).

Stahl supplies coatings used in various sectors, including packaging, automotive, fashion, and lifestyle.
