Strategy purchased 4,603 bitcoin for $369.7 million in the week ended Aug. 30, ending a 10-week stretch without any purchases, the company said Monday. The coins were acquired at an average price of $80,318 each, inclusive of fees and expenses.
Strategy funded the purchase through its at-the-market equity program, selling 4,531,421 shares of common stock and generating $602.8 million in net proceeds during the period. Of that total, $369.7 million went toward bitcoin, $151.8 million funded repurchases of the company's STRC preferred stock, $50.7 million covered STRC dividends, and $30 million was added to the company's USD Cash account, the company said.
Strategy now holds 845,050 bitcoin acquired at an aggregate average price of $75,412 per coin, the company said. As of Aug. 30, the company's USD Reserve and USD Cash balances stood at $5.10 billion and $1.61 billion, respectively.
Shares of Strategy climbed 4.4% to close at $132.94 on Monday. Bitcoin was changing hands near $79,000 that day, according to Bloomberg.
The purchase comes after a difficult stretch for the company. Strategy reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter of 2026, driven by an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on its digital assets as bitcoin's price fell. The company held 846,000 bitcoin as of June 30, acquired at an average cost of roughly $75,578 per coin, against a trading price of around $64,915 at the time.
As bitcoin's decline weighed on its holdings, Strategy shifted away from its longstanding policy of never selling its coins. The company sold bitcoin for the first time since late 2022 in late May 2026, using the proceeds to fund preferred stock distributions. According to Fortune, those transactions—spread across four separate occasions during the summer—came to approximately $544 million in aggregate.
The company also adopted a formal capital framework in late June that authorized bitcoin sales and set aside dedicated cash pools to cover preferred dividends and debt obligations. Last week, Strategy created a separate USD Cash pool alongside its existing reserve, giving management broader flexibility to deploy capital.
Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor has built the company into the largest corporate holder of bitcoin. Strategy's stock remains down around 60% over the past year, according to Bloomberg.
