Cotton Slipping Back on Friday Following Thursday Strength

Cotton prices are trading with Friday morning losses of 10 to 33 points. Futures rallied into the Thursday close, as December rallied above 90 cents. Contracts closed with gains of 304 to 329 points across the front months. Crude oil was up $1.31 per barrel, with the US dollar index $0.001 higher.

Export Sales showed a total of just 95,726 RB in 2026/27 sales in the week of 8/20. That was a 46.62% drop from the same week last year. Vietnam was the buyer of 19,000 RB, with 14,400 RB sold to Guatemala. New crop sales totaled 39,600 RB. Shipments totaled 181,025 RB in that week, which was 60.69% above the same week last year. The top destination was Vietnam od 47,900RBm with 35,300 RB to Pakistan and 18,800 RB to India.

The Seam reported sales of 96 bales on Wednesday at an average price of 80.26 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index was down 60 points on August 26 at 97.60 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were unchanged on 8/26, with the certified stocks level at 66,327 bales. The Adjusted World Price was raised by another 190 points on Thursday to 71.52 cents/lb.
