Hyundai plans 100+ vehicle launches, raises 2030 profit margin target

Hyundai Motor unveiled an unprecedented product expansion on Wednesday, pledging over 100 vehicle introductions and updates worldwide through 2030 and lifting its operating profit margin goal to above 9% from a prior 8%-to-9% band.
The plan, presented at the company's 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, centers heavily on the United States. Hyundai said it intends to introduce 58 models in North America by 2030, including 10 hybrid vehicles, with hybrids expected to account for half of its regional sales by that date. Hybrid sales across the broader U.S. market rose 19% in the first half of 2026, according to Reuters, while Hyundai's own hybrid sales climbed 71% in the second quarter. Cox Automotive found that about 56% of U.S. car buyers reported that rising gasoline prices increased their interest in purchasing a hybrid.
Seven new vehicles are scheduled to arrive in the next eight months, the company said. Hyundai also plans to launch its first Extended Range Electric Vehicle models in the first half of 2027, targeting more than 600 miles of range. The Santa Fe EREV will be built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama.
Hyundai stood by its goal of moving 5.55 million vehicles worldwide by 2030 — a 6% global market share — and projected that electrified models would represent 60% of its total sales at that point, versus 23% in 2025. Global manufacturing capacity is set to expand by 1.27 million units, with 500,000 of those added in North America, and the company said end-parts localization in the region would rise above 80%.
CEO José Muñoz said tariffs were accelerating Hyundai's U.S. localization plans. Under a trade agreement between Washington and Seoul, Hyundai is subject to a 15% U.S. tariff on automobiles. In an interview with CNBC, Muñoz said, "Tariffs are helping accelerate our localization plan," adding that the company had an advantage because its U.S. production push "had already started before tariffs were announced." When asked by Reuters whether he was concerned about tariffs rising further, Muñoz said: "I'm not especially worried as long as it applies to everybody."
Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis will add its first hybrid and first Extended Range EV as it targets 350,000 annual sales across more than 40 markets by 2030. The company also announced that IONIQ 5 units destined for Alphabet's Waymo robotaxi fleet would start arriving in Q4 2026, with U.S. robot production set to launch in 2028 at an annual capacity of 30,000 units.
Hyundai stock fell 3.3% on Wednesday, lagging the Kospi's 1.3% gain, after the company held its shareholder return ratio at a minimum of 35% of net profit.
