Quick Read

  • XRP has gained 48% in one week, rising from its August 17 cycle low of $0.9877 to around $1.48.

  • XRP's RSI has cooled from above 80 to just over 60, showing that buying momentum remains bullish, while $1.50 now stands as its immediate resistance level.

  • The moving averages support buying XRP, but a confirmed close above $1.50 would be the stronger signal.

XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) has been one of the best-performing crypto in the market over the past week, gaining 48% after sharp swings in both directions as buyers and sellers battled for control. XRP rose from its cycle low of $0.9877 on August 17 to around $1.48 today, making it significantly more expensive than it was a week ago.

With XRP now trying to recover from the July 2025 to August 2026 crash that erased nearly 73% of its value, is it still worth buying after this sharp rally or has the best opportunity already passed?

How XRP Gained 48% in Just One Week

XRP's price traded around $1 for most of August, falling to the $0.98 to $1 range eight times between August 11 and August 18, with one of those drops marking its cycle low of $0.9877. However, buyers kept pushing it above the pivotal $1 mark.

The news that the CLARITY Act's vote didn't happen before the Senate recess on August 8 played a key role in the downturn, with Galaxy Research cutting its estimate that the bill would become law in 2026 from 30% to 10%. However, the coin saw a sharp rally between August 19 and August 22, rallying from $0.9877 to around $1.66.

The rally began when the U.S. President Donald Trump held a crypto policy summit at the White House, and called on Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. The U.S. Treasury added to the momentum by announcing plans to double its long-term bond buyback program from $2 billion to $4 billion beginning September 9, pushing more capital towards high-risk assets like XRP.

XRP rallied over 60% after these developments, but the rally soon reversed as traders looking to break even sold their positions, while exchanges were forced to close leveraged long positions as mounting losses exceeded their available funds. XRP fell to $1.44 before stabilizing around $1.48 today, leaving it roughly 48% above its cycle low of $0.9877.

Is XRP in Overbought Territory After This Rally?

XRP moved into overbought territory during its rally, with its daily RSI moving above 80 when the coin climbed above $1.30 and toward $1.66. An RSI above 70 generally signals that an asset has become overbought and could face a pullback, as seen when XRP pulled back to $1.44. However, the RSI has cooled over the last 24 hours to just above 60, showing that buying momentum has eased but remained bullish.

While XRP is no longer in overbought territory, reducing the immediate risk of another sharp pullback, the coin still faces several resistance levels that could determine whether the rally can continue. The most immediate level is $1.50, which the token has struggled to overcome after several attempts over the last eight months. XRP then must rally above the $1.65 to $1.70 zone where sellers who triggered the August 22 downturn could step in again.

A sustained break above $1.70 opens the door for a rally towards $1.83, a level XRP hasn't tested since January 2026.

Whether XRP can break above these levels will depend largely on fresh demand, improved spot ETF inflows like the $56.86 million recorded in August so far, and progress on the CLARITY Act. These catalysts could give the token enough momentum to push through resistance and hold its gains.

Is It Too Late to Buy XRP After the 48% Rally?

Missing out on XRP before the 48% rally doesn't mean it is too late to buy today. At $1.48, XRP currently trades above its 10-day and 100-day exponential moving averages (EMA), at $1.27 and $1.18, which tracks recent price momentum and supports the case that buyers are still in control.

The 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day simple moving averages are all bullish too, at $1.10, $1.15, and $1.27. However, XRP has already recorded a 39.1% rally in August, its best performance since January 2025, which makes buying now a bet that the move continues rather than a bet on a cheaper price, the way buying at the $0.9877 cycle low would have been.

XRP faces resistance at $1.50, followed by $1.65-$1.70, and $1.83. If it fails to break above these levels, it could pull back toward $1.20 as traders take profits, potentially putting any position taken at $1.48 into negative territory.

The moving averages support buying XRP, but a confirmed close above $1.50 would be the stronger signal, since it would show the resistance that has held for eight months is actually breaking rather than being tested again.
